Panthera Tigris Javanicus (Sondaicus) Claimed to be extinct, this is the story of the appearance of the Javan tiger

The Javan tiger is said to have become extinct several years ago. However, news related to the sighting of the Javan tiger still often appears in a number of areas.

Recently, news of the appearance of the Javan tiger came from Banjarnegara, Central Java (Central Java). A number of residents of Offer Village, Banjarnegara Regency, reportedly saw sightings of a herd of tigers in a rice field area.

The veracity of this information is not known for certain. The Central Java Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) is currently investigating the truth of the information by dispatching a team to Banjarnegara, where the tiger herd appeared.

However, the information on the appearance of tigers on the island of Java has caught the public's attention. This is none other than because the Javan tiger has long been extinct.

Reporting from the dlhk.jogjaprov.go.id page, the Javan tiger was declared extinct in the early 1980s. The beginning of the extinction of the tiger, which has the Latin name Panthera tigris Sondaica, was due to the clearing of forest land in Java in the 1800s to become plantations.

The International Union for Conservation Nature (IUCN) officially announced that the last Javan tiger was in Meru Betiri National Park, East Java in 1976. After that, the Javan tiger continued to disappear and was finally declared extinct in the early 1980s.

In addition, allegations of sightings of a Javan tiger also occurred in Magetan, East Java in 2009. At that time, several residents said they saw sightings of a tigress with two cubs in the area near Mount Lawu.

After the eruption of Mount Merapi in 2010, two residents also claimed to have seen the appearance of tiger claw marks on the farm. Meanwhile, around the slopes of Mount Wilis, stories about tiger sightings were also broadcast by residents who found footprints and the intestines of animals suspected of being hunted by tigers.
