Intel Core i3 vs i5 vs i7 vs i9: Integrated Graphics

Intel's Integrated Graphics is not a rival to Dedicated Graphics from NVidia or AMD Radeon. However, integrated graphics are usually used for low graphics computing and tend to be more power efficient so that they are still useful, especially for mobile use.

Intel itself has several versions of integrated graphics available from Core i3 to Core i9. For the latest generation of processors at this time, Intel has a naming (brand) for integrated graphics such as Intel UHD (for Intel processors 7th generation and earlier use the name Intel HD), Intel Iris, and Intel Iris Pro.
Confused about how to choose integrated graphics? Here are 3 things that affect Intel's integrated graphics performance.

1. Brand Integrated Graphics

There are 3 brands that you can find today. There's Intel HD/UHD, Intel Iris, and Intel Iris Pro/Plus. Judging from the brand, Intel HD/UHD is the basic graphics device. While Intel Iris Pro / Plus is the most powerful integrated graphics.

2. Processor generation

Every 1 or 2 years, Intel releases a new generation of processors. As of this writing, Intel processors have entered the 9th generation of processors. Of course in each generation, there is an increase in performance both in terms of processors and also in terms of integrated graphics.

So, also pay attention to integrated graphics based on your processor generation. For example, the Intel Core i7-4578U processor which has integrated Intel Iris 5100 graphics was released on the 4th generation Haswell processor. The graphics performance is certainly inferior to the performance of the Intel HD 620 which was introduced in the 6th generation processor even though the Intel HD brand is lower than the Intel Iris.

3. Mobile/desktop processor

Desktop processors tend to have stronger performance than mobile processors because desktop processors consume more power. In fact, the performance of the processor and other devices such as RAM also affects the performance of integrated graphics.

This also applies to various variants of Intel Core processors. Taken from the NotebookCheck site for the Intel HD 620, all of the above processors use the same integrated graphics, namely the Intel HD 620. However, their performance tends to be higher when paired with an Intel Core i7-7600U.
