Peugeot Electric Cars Are Still Quite Expensive For the Indonesian Market

Peugeot admits that it will not be left behind in welcoming the era of electrification of motorized vehicles in Indonesia as the government plans in Presidential Regulation No. 55 of 2019.

It's just that there are various aspects that should be studied first before going there, such as the availability of infrastructure, purchasing power and the character of the community as users, to the right selling price.

"Electric vehicles are at a higher level than internal combustion engine (ICE) cars in terms of price because some of their components are still expensive. So, they must be seriously studied," said Astra Peugeot's Chief Executive Officer, Rokky Irvayandi.

"Market absorption is also worth looking at, but Peugeot actually already has its products (E208 and E2008). We will support the KBLBB program from the government," he continued.

However, Rokky ensured that the price of electric cars from Peugeot would not be below the price tag of conventional vehicles being marketed. This means that the environmentally friendly car will be above Rp. 600 million because the cheapest product from Peugeot in Indonesia at this time, namely the 3008 SUV Active, is marketed at Rp. 590 million.

"Certainly (the price of Peugeot electric cars) will be above the current lowest variant of conventional cars," he said. Previously, Rokky had said that Peugeot Indonesia was preparing to welcome the era of electric vehicles in the country. However, there are still many considerations so that no definite decision has been made.

This includes the model that will be offered to the Indonesian people even though the European market already has the E208 and E2008.

"That's for Europe, if it is shown for countries with different climates, of course there are special specs, including Indonesia, which is tropical (hot and humid)," he said.

"So, special specifications are needed for this market. Currently, development is still under development," continued Rokky.
