More than 6,600 Toyota Electric Cars Sold in Indonesia
With the increasing public interest in electric vehicles, it is recorded that more than 6,600 Toyota electric cars have been sold to date in Indonesia.
The transition from cars with internal engines or ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) to electric cars is indeed happening. In Indonesia, more and more consumers are getting interested in this zero-emission car. Even Toyota as the largest manufacturer in Indonesia recorded a significant increase in electric car sales.
More than 6,600 units sold
In a seminar on Google's search for electric cars in Indonesia, Lina Agustina as GM Marketing Planning and New Business of PT Toyota-Astra Motor revealed that Toyota has sold thousands of hybrid or battery-powered cars to date.
“Now if we see that the interest (electric cars) is quite large. And we see that from the beginning of our sales until now, we have sold more than 6,600 units. With a total of 11 models of our HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle). I include Lexus in it," explained Lina.
Lina also added that the increasing public interest in the development of electric cars indicates that battery-powered vehicles are increasingly being accepted by Indonesian consumers.
"Well, if it's a prediction in the future, I'm pretty sure that this will continue to grow," he explained. "We are quite positive about the public's response to electric cars. And we will see that this sales figure will continue to rise.”
Global sales increase
Not only for the Indonesian market, but the electric car fever is very clear in foreign markets. Where more and more manufacturers are introducing and marketing their electric vehicles. Likewise, Toyota's electric car sales globally are recorded to be higher.
"Globally, Toyota itself has sold a total of 2.5 million electric cars (units). Which is about over 27% of Toyota's total sales," he added.
Toyota itself has prepared 30 battery-powered vehicles, both passenger cars and commercial cars. The plan, they are targeting to sell 3.5 million battery-powered cars per year by 2030.
As for Indonesia, Toyota is reported to have collaborated with the Indonesian government and the Japanese government through an additional investment of IDR 27 trillion in Indonesia. With the investment made, the possibility of Toyota to develop and produce electric cars in Indonesia is wide open.
