As a form of commitment to always support government policies in accelerating the development of national electrified vehicles, Toyota is expanding the reach of the EV Smart Mobility Project.
Toyota held an activity to popularize the electric vehicle ecosystem in the tourist area of Lake Toba, North Sumatra.
With this, Toyota is the initiator of the popularization of the electrified vehicle ecosystem on the island of Sumatra.
“EV Smart Mobility is one of the realizations of Toyota's electrification concept, namely Connected, Autonomous, Shared, & Electric (CASE). This project expansion is expected to further expand public access to experience electric vehicles and their ecosystem, which will be the main support for future mobility," said President Director of PT Toyota-Astra Motor, Susumu Matsuda.
"So it is hoped that in the future the public will understand more about the importance of the presence of electrified vehicles to create a sustainable environment. This series of projects is also one of Toyota's efforts in creating Mobility Happiness for All through Total Mobility Solutions, one of which is electrification vehicles," he continued.
EV Smart Mobility is part of Toyota's implementation of the Multi-Pathway Strategy concept in building the electrified vehicle market.
This concept is based on the fact that the diversity and breadth of characteristics of customer needs, both in terms of products and technology as well as infrastructure support that is already available.
Therefore, Toyota not only presents a complete choice of electrification technology, but also provides an integrated electrification ecosystem to provide a new experience in mobility using Toyota's electrified products.
This is in line with Toyota's commitment to present a Total Mobility Solution to create Happiness Mobility for All.
Toba Smart Mobility EV
In addition to functioning to popularize Toyota's electrification technology, this project is also targeted to have a positive impact on efforts to restore the tourism sector.
The selection of the Toba Smart Mobility EV location is also based on The 5 Super-Priority Tourist Destination in Indonesia belonging to the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy.
This project is centered on the island of Samosir which is one of the popular destinations and is visited by many local and foreign tourists.
With an area of about 630 km2, the public and tourists can take advantage of Toyota's electrified vehicles to surround the island of Samosir which is surrounded by Lake Toba with an attractive panoramic charm.
EV Smart Mobility Toba is supported by 10 partnership companies, namely PT Astra International Tbk., PT Aisin Indonesia, PT Astra Daihatsu Motor, PT Denso Indonesia, PT Asuransi MSIG Indonesia, PT Sugity Creatives, PT Toyota Astra Financial Services, Toyota Industries Corporation, PT Toyota Tsusho Indonesia and TCD Asia Pacific Indonesia.
Toyota is also working with PT Serasi Auto Raya (SERA) which will handle operational activities during this project.
10 units of Toyota C+Pod and 1 unit of Toyota Prius PHEV
In this project, Toyota places 10 units of Full Battery Electric Vehicle, namely the Toyota C+Pod and 1 unit of Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV), namely the Toyota Prius PHEV.
As supporting infrastructure, 1 stockyard, 1 main station for charging electricity, and 2 sub stations have also been built.
Everything is integrated to support the mobility of tourists and the public to the surrounding routes while enjoying the beautiful scenery that is offered. No less than 10 tourist destinations will be crossed by the EV Smart Mobility Toba route.
Five of them are Tuk Tuk, Tomok, Batuhoda, Parbaba and Lumban Suhi for the Toyota C+Pod route. Then the Parapat, Caldera, Sibea-bea, Pandang Tele, and Efrata routes and the surrounding areas can be reached using the Toyota Prius PHEV unit.
To be able to enjoy the services in this project, the community has 3 choices of ways. The first way is to come directly to the two main stations located in the Lekjon area & the Tuktuk Ring area.
Then, the public can also place orders through hotel or resort intermediaries in the Toba Samosir area who have collaborated in this project.
Meanwhile, the last method is to directly access the reservation service digitally through the m-TOYOTA and TRAC to GO applications or through the call center 1500-009.
All electrified vehicle units that can be used are equipped with digital key facilities, so that users can experience a total digital experience.
Both when making an order, payment and also access such as opening and closing doors and access to turning on the unit, only by using a smartphone.
Net Zero Emission in 2060
Furthermore, EV Smart Mobility is also Toyota's concrete step in inviting the entire community to contribute to accelerating the reduction of carbon emissions in Indonesia.
This project is part of support to the Government of Indonesia to reduce Global Greenhouse Gas Emissions by 29% by 2030 and achieve Net Zero Emissions by 2060.
Reflecting on previous experiences, Toyota is optimistic that it will be able to follow the successful steps of EV Smart Mobility in Bali which has been running since 2021 and has been enjoyed by more than 1,300 users with a total usage of 91,501 km which only produces a total of 4 tons of CO2 emissions from the three line-ups of vehicles with Battery technology. Electric Vehicle (BEV) and Plug-In Hybrid Vehicle (PHEV) are used.
When compared with the use of ICE-engined cars that can produce 13 tons of emissions in the same distance, Toyota has managed to reduce CO2 emissions by 9 tons or 66%.
The numbers are quite positive as Toyota's contribution to achieving carbon neutrality.
“Toyota has always supported the government's steps to achieve carbon neutrality in Indonesia. Through a multi-pathway strategy, we move from various directions with various approaches to contribute as much as possible to this vision," said Vice President Director of PT Toyota Astra Motor, Henry Tanoto.
“One of them is through the Toba Smart Mobility EV. And this project is also Toyota's effort to increase public awareness of environmental sustainability, while at the same time generating local tourism through ecotourism," he continued.
Toyota Electrified Vehicle Line-up
As a pioneer in developing the electrified vehicle market in Indonesia, since 2009 Toyota has introduced and marketed various line-ups of electric vehicles through the national automotive market.
The first line-up brought to the national automotive market is the Toyota Prius Hybrid, which is also known as an environmentally friendly or electrified vehicle that is successful in the global market.
In line with developments, we will continue to present more line-ups with electrification technology including Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV).
Until June 2022, Toyota has successfully marketed 6,513 electrified vehicles that have the potential to contribute to reducing total CO2 emissions by more than 24,000 tons in the future.
This figure comes from the total sales of Toyota's complete line-up of vehicles based on Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV), Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV) and Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV).
