PT Chery Motor Indonesia (CMI) has announced that apart from releasing the Tiggo series, it will also debut the Chery Omoda 5. The 2022 Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) Hybrid is planned to be the most appropriate moment to introduce this Cossover SUV.
The appearance of the Chery Omoda 5 actually made its global debut at the Guangzhou Auto Show, last November 2021. However, this car will not be officially sold in the second quarter of 2022. "Later at IIMS we will also have Omoda 5," explained Rifkie Setiawan, CMI's General Manager Marketing when met some time ago.
The presence of Omoda 5 will clearly drum the war for other rivals in the compact size SUV segment. Because the rumor that is also blowing fast is that Honda will make its global debut again at IIMS 2022. The model is the Honda HR-V 1.5L Turbo, which has been talked about by many people for a long time.
Then can Chery Omoda 5 be compared to the 2022 Honda HR-V Turbo? And which of these two cars will presumably attract more attention from the Indonesian public? Let's take a deeper look.
Futuristic Design Chery Omoda 5 vs Stylish Honda HR-V Turbo 2022
When it comes to design, of course it will come back to the tastes of each individual. But comparing the appearance of Chery Omoda 5 vs Honda HR-V Turbo 2022 it feels quite balanced. Both have their own strengths.
In form, Omoda 5 displays Chery's latest design style. The front grille is in the form of an inverted trapezoid, which is arranged neatly and is quite large in size. The main lights are also placed on the left and right of the bumper like most other new cars.
Right under the bonnet there are DRL lights with a flat shape equipped with sharp lines. The bumper itself is made quite prominent with a black color combination and there are a few orange accents. The same color is also used on the wheels, body cladding, to the edge of the roof. Meanwhile, the rear shape of the Omoda 5 is no less futuristic.
Switching to the Honda HR-V Turbo 2022, the design is certain to be the same as the HR-V RS 2022 which recently debuted in Thailand. Starting from the grille, flat main lights, slim body silhouette, to the shape of the burtian will be the same.
Maybe the difference will lie in the design of the wheels, as well as the presence of two mufflers at the rear. Considering that the Honda HR-V RS in neighboring countries is of the e: HEV hybrid type, while in Indonesia it has a 1.5-liter Turbo engine.
Futuristic vs Sporty Interior, Which Choose?
Next, let's compare the interior of the Chery Omoda 5 and the cabin of the Honda HR-V 1.5 Turbo. At Omoda 5, Chery again adopts a design that has previously been installed on other models.
The dashboard design is flat but wide enough. AC grilles are also placed quite a lot but neatly arranged. For meter clusters, use the floating model which is made to connect with the infotainment system so that the size looks very large.
What about the HR-V Turbo? There are no leaked images of the cabin of this car. However, we strongly suspect that the cabin layout will be the same as the HR-V 2022 in Thailand. If you want a little comparison with Honda models that have entered Indonesia, the design is roughly similar to the cabin of the Honda Civic 2022.
Both use turbo engines, Chery is more powerful than Honda
If you look at the technical specifications, the Chery Omoda 5 and the Honda HR-V 2022 are quite comparable. In its home country, Chery equipped the Omoda 5 with a 1.6-liter TGDI (Turbo Gasoline Direct Injection) 4-cylinder engine with a power of 199 PS and 290 Nm of torque.
Meanwhile, the HR-V Turbo engine will reportedly be installed with a 1.5L Turbo 4-cylinder engine from the 2022 Honda Civic. This engine is believed to produce a peak power of 118 PS and 142 Nm of torque.
If you look at these specifications, it's clear that Honda has to admit that the Chery engine is more powerful. In fact, reportedly Chery is also preparing Omoda with hybrid and fully electric engines.
