VR Part 3: The reason a virtual system is needed And How virtual reality works

The reason a virtual system is needed

Currently virtual reality has been widely used in various fields of profession and others. Because this virtual reality system can help in certain fields. Here are some examples of fields that use Virtual Reality to assist their activities in that field:

Medical and medical field

In the field of medicine, virtual reality technology is very useful for doctors to carry out a simulation before performing an operation on a patient, or for learning in the medical field. Because with virtual reality technology the organs inside the body will look more realistic. By knowing the conditions of the organs in the body more realistically using virtual reality, doctors and surgeons will be able to make more informed decisions. Virtual reality can also be used by doctors to find out the progress of a disease, diagnose disease, and perform more appropriate treatment techniques for patients.

Military field

In the military field, Virtual Reality makes soldiers like playing games. Soldiers are trained to fight in the virtual world. Such as shooting practice, driving a vehicle, and also parachuting practice. Virtual Reality is able to make digital displays more real for battlefield environments and war situations. soldiers will get an awesome and interesting experience to get ready for war in the future. This way will also make the cost of war games much more efficient and more economical when compared to actual war games which require large costs such as removing bullets and using transportation fuels such as fighter planes and tanks.

Transportation sector

In the field of transportation, Virtual Reality is used especially in the world of aviation. For prospective pilots or even pilots, they will definitely use virtual reality to practice flying planes. In this virtual reality, the pilots will get a real atmosphere in flying the plane. So that pilots can immediately feel the atmosphere when flying an airplane without having to drive a real plane. Usually this tool is used for pilots who are carrying out routine tests in the feasibility of flying airplanes and for prospective pilots, before they fly real airplanes, they usually carry out simulation tests using this virtual reality system.

Automotive field

In the automotive field, Virtual Reality technology is useful for designing cars. An example of a company using this technology is the Ford car company. They used a Virtual Reality type Oculus Rift Headset to evaluate the inside and outside. When using the Oculus Rift Headset, the designer will move their hand and the cameras will follow the movement so the designer can coordinate with the software to match the digital presentation. In addition, the designers will be able to see the details of the car on the inside and outside

How virtual reality (VR) works

To experience the thrill of virtual reality (VR), we will need a VR headset. However, besides that we need gloves and walkers as well. Gloves are useful for moving our hands and sending information about our movements in the real world to the virtual reality world. Headsets are useful for monitoring the user's head and viewing the Virtual Reality world. Meanwhile, the walker is useful for monitoring the movement of feet from the real world to the virtual reality world. There are 6 parts in a VR headset, namely:

  • Displays

The display from the Oculus Rift has become an HD display which is useful for displaying 3D depictions at an angle of 100 degrees.

  • Cover

This section is the cover of the display which contains tracking sensors, namely head tracking, motion tracking, and eye tracking. Cover is not needed if the display from the headset is separate.

  • Sponge

This sponge is useful so that users don't get dizzy quickly.

  • Lens

The lens in the VR headset uses a special lens, namely biconvex or concave-convex. It can shape the image and make the focus. Then, there is a 3D view.

  • Dial

The dial is useful for adjusting the viewing distance from 3D and Virtual Reality.

  • Circuit board

On the Oculus Rift headset, it has a motherboard in the form of an ARM Processor and Chip LED control.

The way VR works is the visualization of videos connected to VR via HDMI. The image is projected through a special lens with the VREAM software. Then, unconsciously, our brain automatically gets used to the picture until we feel that we are in the real world. So, on a Virtual Reality headset, it will be seen more clearly that it is very different from the existing reality. However, overuse can cause the user to feel nauseous and dizzy.

Conclusion

With the advancement of technology, Virtual Reality systems will also be more advanced. From its inception until now in 2023, the virtual reality system is increasingly changing and the system technology is increasingly advanced.

This virtual reality system is not only for the world of games, but for various fields of work this virtual reality system can also assist in carrying out work in that field. In Virtual Reality there are six components, namely displays, sponges, covers, lenses, dials, and circuit boards. With that component, Virtual Reality can create a virtual world that looks like the real world. But Virtual Reality has a weakness, namely bringing the real world into the virtual world.
