Marquez Admits Not a Good Teammate, Warning for Joan Mir?

Repsol Honda racer Marc Marquez admits that he is not a pleasant teammate. Marquez's comments could be a warning to Joan Mir.

Marquez plunged into MotoGP in 2013 when he was 20 years old. The Spaniard partnered with Dani Pedrosa, then became a sensation after winning the world title in his first season.

Marquez and Pedrosa spent six seasons together at the Japanese manufacturer. Marquez is slowly displacing his senior as Honda's main racer. Following Marquez's success in winning five MotoGP world championship titles.

The relationship between the Spanish duo was not always smooth, especially in the first two seasons. "Dani and I, we are on very good terms now, and he is an amazing person," said Marquez.

"However, in 2013 and 2014 there were clashes. He's the king, the number 1, and people listen to him in the garage. Everyone has expectations from him. And suddenly this boy comes along, in his first year of Moto2. The first race... boom! The second race, boom! And that's a bitter pill to swallow."

Dani Pedrosa finished runner-up three times and finished third twice before joining Marc Marquez. However, after the arrival of Marquez, Pedrosa actually slumped after only finishing third once and it became increasingly difficult to be competitive until he finally retired in 2018.

"In those years there was a lot of tension because we were fighting for the same thing. He knew my potential. That's why he always tried to stick to me, so I had no room to really go. He was very competitive. That was his advantage, so far he has always been competitive in any case," Pedrosa said.

After Pedrosa left, Marc Marquez had three teammates; Jorge Lorenzo (2019), his younger brother Alex Marquez (2020), and Pol Espargaro (2021-2022). Joan Mir will be Marquez's newest tandem until 2024.

Mir's duet with Marquez is said to be a dream team because of the status of the two racers as former world champions. However, Mir must be vigilant because Lorenzo, who holds three MotoGP world championship titles, also has difficulty competing with Marquez after finishing 19th.

"I've never been a pleasant teammate. You have to make your teammate's life impossible, if you can," said Marquez in the documentary 'Marc Marquez: All In', as reported by Crash.
