Daihatsu Indonesia recorded an increase in sales from October to November 2021. This increase was triggered by the launch of a new model, the all new Daihatsu Xenia 2022, which was launched on November 11.
Marketing and Customer Relations Division Head of PT Astra International-Daihatsu Sales Operation, Hendrajadi Lastiyoso explained, therefore car sales during the 11th month were the highest achievement this year. In a sense, it almost matches the conditions before the pandemic occurred in 2019.
"November we managed to sell 14,861 units (retail sales), now this is indeed a record in 2021, this is the highest sales, because it was more triggered by the all new Daihatsu Xenia product, hopefully December can be even higher," Hendrajadi said in a virtual conference press recently.
Compared to October 2021, the manufacturer sold 14,301 units. This means that there was an increase of 3.9 percent in retail sales. It's just that on a wholesale basis (distribution from factories to dealers) there was a decrease in the same period, around 5.7 percent from 17,020 to 16,045 units.
For the Daihatsu Xenia model, there was the biggest increase in sales. On a wholesale basis, it increased from 1,151 to 2,743 units. Likewise retail sales, from October as many as 741 units rose by around 109 percent to 1,555 units.
Hendrajadi explained, the sales record for November 2021 was a combination of new and old models, so there was an increase that doubled.
But what's interesting is that the Daihatsu Xenia RWD, aka the old model, contributed the most by 70 percent or around 1,087 units. Meanwhile, the new Daihatsu Xenia with FWD only sold 30 percent or 468 units. Hendrajadi revealed that the sales figure was relatively small because it was related to unit distribution.
Then why do older models keep going up, because of trends in the market. If a new model is launched, then the old product is being hunted by many people because usually, to clear up stock, dealers provide tempting discounts.
He even called the old Daihatsu Xenia like gold which is liked by many people. "With this price difference, we are still looking for it, but gradually the all new Daihatsu Xenia will dominate sales," he said.
Daihatsu Sigra Is Still the Best-Selling Model
Even though there was an increase in sales, it did not necessarily make the Low MPV twin of a million people become Daihatsu's best-selling car. During November, Daihatsu Sigra became the best-selling product for consumers with 3,827 units.
Then followed the Daihatsu Gran Max pickup with 3,590 units, then Daihatsu Ayla with 1,917 units, followed by Daihatsu Terios with 1,746 units. Daihatsu Xenia actually occupies fifth position with 1,555 units. Next were filled by Daihatsu Rocky and Daihatsu Gran Max minibuses of 1,080 and 940 units respectively.
After that there was Daihatsu Luxio which sold 171 units to consumers, followed by Daihatsu Sirion which became the model with sales of at least 35 units. Unfortunately, the city car category was not distributed last month, aka wholesales for November 0 units.
For next year's sales predictions, Hendrajadi was not willing to comment on it. What is clear is that thanks to the presence of a new model, the all new Daihatsu Xenia 2022 can be even more exciting, plus the Minister of Industry's proposal to make a permanent PPnBM discount so that car sales will increase.
