Its name is less popular than city cars from Japanese brands such as Honda Brio, Daihatsu Sirion, or maybe Suzuki Ignis. Naturally, the progress of the Renault brand in Indonesia is not as popular as other European brands which are more premium.
For the entry level segment, Renault introduced the Kwid Climber in 2020 for the Indonesian market. This city car type comes with a masculine SUV-style appearance. The concept is similar to the Suzuki Ignis which is a mini SUV style.
What are the interesting things from the Renault Kwid Climber to fight against the domination of Japanese brands in the city car segment? here is the review.
1. The price of the Renault Kwid Climber is cheap, slightly different from the LCGC
Renault, which is represented by PT Maxindo Renault, is now selling the Kwid Climber with prices starting from IDR 209.5 million on the road in Jakarta. The difference in price is less than Rp. 20 million with the Honda Brio Satya E CVT which sells for Rp. 190.4 million.
When compared to the Suzuki Ignis, which has a Small SUV concept, the price for the Renault Kwid Climber is still cheaper. PT Suzuki Indomobil Sales sells Ignis GX AGS at a price of IDR 222,000,000.
2. Masculine Appearance Ala Crossover, Stylish and Sporty
The Renault Kwid style represents a French alert car. The design is minimalist, but the elegant and masculine details embedded can make this car the center of attention. Renault tries to display a stylish style in their cheap car.
The combination of colors given is also very bold, a combination of blue and orange which characterizes a young car. Prominent fenders with matte black accents emphasize the masculine impression.
We can also enjoy an interesting appearance when we enter the Kwid Climber's interior. We can see the sporty and stylish aura from the dashboard design and the patterns on the seats with orange stripe accents.
3. The Renault Kwid Climber feature is quite okay
For a car priced at Rp. 200 million, the features offered by the Renault Kwid Climber are pretty good. This car is equipped with a 7-inch touch screen head unit equipped with speakers and radio, and supports Bluetooth connectivity, USB ports and AUX functions.
The Renault Kwid Climber has provided a 12V power socket in the front and rear seat areas to support the practicality of charging cellphones. Neither the driver nor the passengers need to be confused when the gadget they carry runs out of battery.
The Renault Kwid, which is present in Indonesia, is equipped with an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) braking system and Traffic Assist Mode which can make the car drive stable even though it is on a slippery road.
The uniqueness of the Renault Kwid Climber when compared to its competitors is that there are several other advantages offered by the New Climber, namely the dial model transmission. Similar to the Wuling Air ev which uses a rotary knob.
4. Qualified Typical Indian Metallurgy
An interesting fact that rarely people know about cars made in India is the matter of metallurgy or metal processing for body and engine materials. India has long been renowned for its expertise in the metallurgical industry.
And don't forget, because the Renault Kwid Climber is made in India, the metal used is much better than metal in Indonesia. In India, the metallurgical technique is much better and more efficient, moreover, the production costs are also cheap.
5. Better Power in the 1,000 cc Class
The Renault Kwid carries a three-cylinder petrol engine with a capacity of 999 cc which is mated to two types of transmission, namely a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT.
This 1000 cc engine has a capacity of 68 PS at 5500 rpm and a maximum torque of 91 Nm at 4250 rpm. The output is slightly larger than the 1.0-liter Ayla which has 66 hp.
"Before Kwid I used Agya, what is clear is that even though it's the same as 999 cc, Kwid has more power. 160 km/h I haven't injected full gas, I don't dare, toll road can go 22 km/liter using Pertamax/Super shell, 18–19 km /liter using pertalite," wrote the Bara Suna account on the Quora forum.
A little note, the Kwid Climber's engine capacity is still below that of the Suzuki Ignis, which uses a 1,200 cc engine. This machine with the code K12M has a capacity of 1,197 cc, produces power of 83 ps/6,000 rpm and is capable of reaching a peak torque of 113 Nm at 4,200 rpm.
