Maruti Suzuki India launched the 5-door Suzuki Jimny (Specifications | News) in early June 2023. As a manufacturing base for the Jimny for the Asian market, Maruti Suzuki has a production capacity for the 5-door Jimny reaching 20 million units per year.
Of the total production, as much as 66 percent will be allocated for domestic sales while the remainder will be intended for the export market.
Being part of the DNA like the 3-door version, the 5-door Jimny has the ability to face rough terrain. Even the toughness that is owned also makes this car very suitable when driving in Indonesia, which notes that it has various road contours.
"Talking about Jimny 5 doors, just pray for him to be able to enter the Indonesian market. Because we also feel that the 5-door Jimny market has great potential for the Indonesian market," said Harold Donnel Tampubolon, Head of Brand Development & Marketing Research 4W PT Suzuki Indomobil Sales (SIS) on the sidelines of the Suzuki Media Test Drive XL7 Hybrid in Yogyakarta, Wednesday 5 July 2023.
He said that if the 5-door Jimny later enters Indonesia, Suzuki will make price adjustments so that it can be well received.
"In whatever price range he (5-door Jimny, red) will be set, he can still offer compact driving and also its own functionality for the Indonesian market," he added.
Suzuki Jimny 5 Door with 3 Door Version Playing in Different Segments
Like the 3-door version, the 5-door Jimny can accommodate 4 people at the same time. Even so, both play in different segments.
"The segmentation of the 3-door Jimny and the 5-door Jimny will definitely be very different. If we know that the 3-door Jimny will definitely be more of a hobby car. As for the 5 door, it is more towards a family vehicle which is very interesting to drive for adventure. In Indonesia, we are still finalizing this car," continued Harold.
The biggest change for the 5-door Jimny compared to the 3-door is a more stretched wheelbase and an additional door in the middle, then rear windows on each side.
In terms of dimensions, this car measures 3,985 mm in length, 1,645 mm in width and 1,720 mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,590 mm and a ground clearance of 210 mm.
For features, the long version of the Jimny has similarities with the 3-door. As can be found inside, this car has successfully embedded a 9-inch touch screen head unit that supports wireless Android Auto connectivity and Apple CarPlay.
In order to facilitate and provide comfort to every user, this car is supported by cruise control, engine start button, and idling stop system which can save fuel usage.
Regarding safety features, looking at the specifications in India, this car is equipped with ABS, EBD, 6 airbags, Hill Hold Assist, Hill Descent Control, Brake Assist, rear view camera, ISOFIX, and finally the brake limited slip differential.
As information, in India this car comes with two types of choices, namely Zeta and Alpha. Each variant is offered with a 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic transmission, which is geared to all four wheels via the All Grip Pro four-wheel drive system.
Regarding the price, in the Land of Hindustan this car costs from 12.74 lakh (Rp. 229.7 million) to 15.05 lakh (Rp. 271.3 million).
