Dodge Charger Daytona Scat Pack, the World's First Electric Muscle Car

Dodge Charger Daytona Scat Pack, the World's First Electric Muscle Car

Dodge has officially entered a new era of muscle cars with the global launch of the 2024 Dodge Charger, which is not only the world's first electric muscle car, but also the first multi-energy muscle car from this legendary brand that is more than 100 years old.

The latest generation Dodge Charger brings electric technology to the muscle car legend. The Charger is claimed to retain its title as the fastest and most powerful muscle car in the world, led by the beast electric variant of the 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona Scat Pack. This car produces 670 hp of power, is predicted to accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-97 km/h) in 3.3 seconds and cover a distance of 400 meters in just 11.5 seconds.

All new Dodge Charger models represent the first vehicles to use Stellantis' new STLA Large platform, leveraging the platform's high-performance, multi-energy capabilities with a choice of electric and petrol models, to provide muscle car enthusiasts with a wide choice. Advanced technology, superior features and extraordinary performance make the latest Dodge Charger a car that is unrivaled in its class.

All models will also be equipped with an all-wheel drive feature and offer a variety of engine performance options. These multi-energy options include the Dodge Charger SIXPACK H.O. powered by 550 hp using a 3.0L Twin Turbo Hurricane High Output engine, as well as the Dodge Charger SIXPACK S.O. 420 horsepower 3.0L Twin Turbo Hurricane Standard Output engine.

"The electric-powered Dodge Charger Daytona Scat Pack delivers performance equivalent to the Charger Hellcat Redeye, and announces its presence through the world's first revolutionary Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust exhaust," said Tim Kuniskis, CEO of the Dodge brand from Stellantis, quoted from the company's website, Thursday, 7 March.

"Meanwhile, the Hurricane engine on the Dodge Charger SIXPACK offers a petrol option for muscle car fans, with greater power and torque than the previous 5.7L and 6.4L HEMI engines. The latest generation of Dodge muscle cars is here," he added.

Production of the two-door electric coupe version of the Dodge Charger Daytona will begin in mid-2024. Meanwhile, production of the four-door electric Daytona Scat Pack and R/T models, as well as the Dodge Charger SIXPACK H.O. two-door petrol and SIXPACK S.O. four-door is scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2025. All new Dodge Chargers will be produced at the Windsor, Ontario, Canada assembly plant.

The launch of the electric-powered Dodge Charger and the more environmentally friendly Charger SIXPACK with a Hurricane engine is in line with the Stellantis Dare Forward 2030 strategic plan. With this plan, Stellantis aims to reduce its global carbon footprint by 50 percent by 2030 and become a transportation industry leader in achieving net zero emissions in 2038.

The World's First Electric Muscle Car Powered by NCA Batteries

As the first member of Dodge's "Brotherhood of Muscle", this first electric muscle car is also the first to use the STLA Large platform, a flexible platform specifically for electric vehicles that has the potential to produce extreme power. The platform can be customized with different suspension modules and powertrain cradle to meet each vehicle's specific performance goals.

The all-wheel drive electric Dodge Charger Daytona relies on a 400V propulsion system that delivers performance like a supercharged V8 engine but without exhaust emissions and with instant torque. The system includes a high-voltage battery, dual integrated charging modules, as well as front and rear electric drive modules (EDM).

The front EDM is equipped with a front wheel end disconnect feature to increase range and efficiency, while the rear EDM has a mechanical limited slip differential to improve traction and performance. Both the front and rear EDMs feature a 3-in-1 architecture (inverter, gearbox and motor), each producing 335 hp (250 kW) of power and 406 Nm of torque.

The battery has an installed capacity of 100.5 kWh and a peak discharge rate of 550 kW - specifically designed to maximize acceleration by allowing the bike to use the most battery power over a quarter mile. The battery cell structure uses a prismatic model, offering a more structurally stable cell with better thermal performance through a rigid casing, resulting in lower battery temperatures during high-performance driving. Meanwhile, according to Stellantis, the chemical element of the NCA lithium battery, which stands for Nickel Cobalt Aluminum Oxide, in this battery cell provides more power per gram - like high octane fuel in a petrol car.
