Volvo EM90 Officially Released - Toyota Alphard No Longer Looks Luxurious

The Volvo EM90 has finally been officially introduced to the world, this is Volvo's first full electric car, a Premium MPV.

Actually, this is not a very recent model from the Swedish manufacturer, because the Volvo EM90 MPV is actually a rebadge of the Zeekr 009 which is a battery-based electric MPV (BEV) made by Geely and produced in China.

Even though they are on different continents, Geely and Volvo are already in partnership, and Volvo is trying to expand its market share by offering an electric car in the form of a luxury MPV which is quite popular in the Asian region.

Even though they only changed the logo, Volvo has its own way of offering a product that looks premium and has a Swedish taste, just like what they have been doing all this time.

"With the EM90, we are bringing Volvo Cars' heritage and leadership in safety into the exciting new electric MPV segment.

"This allows us to tap into new market demand that we have never explored before and expand the appeal of the Volvo brand to more people," said Jim Rowan, CEO of Volvo Cars in a written statement, Monday (13/11/2023).

Volvo EM90 Brings the Typical Appearance of Volvo Electric Cars

Jim Rowan further explained that the exterior and interior design of the EM90 seeks to present a new style standard for an MPV car.

Just look at how the front of this car appears with a typical Volvo EV identity through the "Thor Hammer" lights which can be immediately recognized when this car is driving.

In addition, the Volvo logo on the closed grille can glow brightly, which is reportedly also the first to be applied by the manufacturer nicknamed the Swedish Tank.

Not only that, the grille of this car also has interesting pattern details inspired by skyscrapers and the latest immersive art from modern cities in Europe.

Then Volvo also thought about other details of the car's exterior design, including the curves of the foglamp housing and air intake, as well as the rims, which were given a choice of 19 inches or 20 inches.

At the rear, the lights stand upright and are accented with a metal strip and the VOLVO identity creates an elegant impression of the car.

Cabin with 15.4 Inch Headunit

The luxurious aura of the Volvo EM90 not only stands out from the outside, but also when you enter inside you can find a private space that calms the minds of its owners throughout the journey.

For the cockpit area, a multi-spoke steering wheel is provided which has various buttons for steering adjustments and also access to the meter cluster and head unit.

The dashboard layout is flat and has two steps without any excessive curves, but in the middle there is a 15.4 inch monitor which looks very intimidating for anyone entering the EM90 cabin for the first time.

Equipped with computing power provided by Snapdragon® Cockpit Platforms from Qualcomm Technologies as standard and 5G connectivity, the EM90 delivers an extraordinary digital experience for all passengers.

To make accessing menus and connectivity easier, Volvo also provides an interactive voice command system with sound clarity as beautiful as Scandinavian nature.

A similar natural theme is also used as the wallpaper on the head unit, and for the rear passengers there is also another 15.4 inch monitor on the ceiling with a folding system.

This digital device can be used for entertainment during travel and video calls when you have to meet with company leaders, which you can't miss because it has the ability to connect with a cellphone.

Don't worry about the audio and video quality of the entertainment screen, because an audio system from Bowers & Wilkins with a total of 21 players has been embedded throughout the Volvo EM90 cabin which can be turned into a private cinema or concert area for you when traveling.

Of course, before that Volvo has provided the best sound isolation system and noise reduction technology as they have done on other Premium models.

One more interesting thing about the voice command system in this car, it is easy to access various other features and capabilities on the head unit, it turns out you can also change the position of the seat, open the window cover, adjust the air conditioning and ambient light in the vehicle cabin.

Once charged, the battery can travel 738 km

Not only is the figure charming, but Volvo also takes advantage of the technological capabilities of the Zeekr 009. As a result, this MPV is equipped with a 116 kWh battery and is connected to an electric motor so it can produce peak power of 200 kW (272 PS).

This car's acceleration ability from a standstill to a speed of 100 k/h is only 8.3 seconds, and the battery is claimed to provide a range of up to 738 km on a single charge.

If the battery runs out of electricity, then using the fast charging facility when charging from 10% to 80% only takes less than 30 minutes.
