2024 Hyundai IONIQ 5 Facelift with Bigger Battery Officially Launched

The 2024 Hyundai IONIQ 5 facelift has apparently been officially launched globally, bringing a series of technological upgrades, including on the battery side. Hyundai's most successful electric car also comes in the N Line variant which is sportier and of course has higher performance than the regular IONIQ 5.

A little flashback, Hyundai was recorded as first introducing the IONIQ 5 in the world in February 2021. A year later this electric car arrived in Indonesia, even the IONIQ 5 which is marketed domestically is made by the Hyundai factory in Cikarang, West Java.

Not only that, starting April 2024, it is reported that Hyundai will also produce its own battery cells for the IONIQ 5 which will be done through manufacturing facilities in the Karawang area, West Java. Perhaps this step is Hyundai Indonesia's preparation for welcoming the 2024 Hyundai IONIQ 5, which has also undergone updates in terms of battery capacity.

2024 Hyundai IONIQ 5 Changes

Quoted from Caranddriver, Tuesday (05/03/2024), the IONIQ 5 facelift is here as a 2025 model year which has quite a lot of changes compared to its predecessor. Even though visually, the outline of the design has not changed drastically, the appearance has been made more aggressive and sporty.

The model being introduced is the version for the South Korean (South Korean) market which is starting to enter official Hyundai showrooms this month, but it is predicted that the technical specifications will not be much different when marketed globally. OK, let's discuss one by one what is different about the IONIQ 5 2025.

Exterior

From the front fascia, things that have changed can be seen in the bumper, especially in the lower area, which now has more creases and has black accents. Moving to the side, you can also see the difference in the design of the wheel rims of this car which are no longer turbine models but like 5 spokes but made more aerodynamic to improve battery performance and cool the brake discs.

In the rear area, in line with the fascia, Hyundai has also made changes to the bumper sector, which is now made a little more prominent. This condition means that the overall length of the car has increased by around 20 mm from the previous 4,635 mm to 4,655 mm, while the width and height remain the same.

Then another part that looks bigger is the rear roof spoiler which has also been extended by around 50 mm to improve aerodynamics.

Interiors

If on the outside the changes are only in the bumper and wheel rim area, then quite a lot has changed in the cabin compartment. The 2024 Hyundai IONIQ 5 facelift now gets a steering wheel model similar to the IONIQ 6 where there are four interactive pixel light points in the center.

Then the AC temperature control buttons and the infotainment screen in the center of the dashboard were also rearranged. As for the center console, now also added buttons for seat heating and ventilation features and a box in the form of a wireless charging facility for cellphones.

For the second row of seats, Hyundai has also now equipped them with an electronic folding system, making it easier for users when they need a larger rear luggage capacity by folding the passenger seat. IONIQ 5 2025 is also now equipped with the latest ccNC software on its display monitor, which not only provides more attractive visual graphics but also Over-The-Air (OTA) update capabilities.

Another thing that is also worth knowing about the facelift version of the IONIQ 5 is that Hyundai designed the car's body to be more rigid than before. This is for the reason that the car is stronger to withstand impacts in the event of an accident, minimizes vibrations, and reduces the impact of noise on the cabin area so that passengers are more comfortable when driving.

2024 Hyundai IONIQ 5 Facelift Has a Bigger Battery

Another significant change in the IONIQ 5 facelift is in the technical sector, because the electric car is now equipped with a battery with a capacity of 84.0 kWh. There is no detailed information regarding Hyundai's claimed mileage capability for the latest IONIQ 5, but it is estimated that it can reach around 520 kilometers (km) on a single charge.

As a comparison, the IONIQ 5 Long Range type marketed in Indonesia uses a battery with a capacity of 72.6 kWh which has a cruising range of 481 km (WLTP). Unfortunately, this South Korean manufacturer also did not mention whether the INOQ 5 Standard Range variant with a 58 kWh battery would also have its capacity upgraded.

However, a number of parties predict that this Standard Range model will be removed for some markets, considering that a more powerful variant is already available, namely the IONIQ 5 N.

Safety Features Are Also More Complete

Lastly, which is no less important, is the improvement in terms of safety and security features. These include the addition of Rear Side Airbags to protect rear passengers in the event of a hard impact as well as Low-Speed Autonomous Emergency Braking which can help the driver carry out emergency braking if the radar system detects any objects that pass suddenly from the left and right sides of the car.

Then there is also Remote Smart Parking Assist 2 which can help make parallel or series parking easier, and Hyundai also provides software updates for the Lane-Keeping Assist feature. Finally, specifically for the South Korean market, the Hands-On Detection feature is also provided, but unfortunately it has not been explained further what the capabilities of this technology are.
