Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Review: Flagship Unmatched

Two years ago, Samsung released its last Galaxy Note series. The following year was filled with rumors that Samsung would merge the Galaxy S & Note lines into one. Entering the beginning of 2022, Samsung finally presents the Galaxy S22 Ultra, as an answer to all the rumors that have appeared before.

As much as possible I don't mistake it for calling it “Galaxy Note22 Ultra”, because it really feels like a Galaxy Note! The merging of superior features into the Galaxy S22 Ultra makes Samsung's best flagship this year even more complete. Not only is the screen and camera superior, but also a smartphone with the best productivity features.

Samsung's flagship portfolio this year seems to be more effective. For consumers who want a compact smartphone, the Galaxy S22 has smaller dimensions than before. Don't need a stylus? Galaxy S22+ can be an alternative. Want the best even if you don't need an S Pen? There's nothing wrong with choosing the Galaxy S22 Ultra.

Really feels like holding the last Galaxy Note. Instead of being made similar to the Galaxy S21 Ultra or other S22 Series, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra appears to use a very different design. More boxy, with a completely new camera module as well. Still big with a weight that is actually still relatively light at 228 grams (lighter than the iPhone 13 Pro Max).

More or less the dimensions are the same as last year's generation, even though now it has an S Pen stylus. The material is also reinforced with Gorilla Glass Victus + on both front and back sides. While the frame uses Aluminum Armor, the same as the Galaxy Z Fold3. Well, for those of you who decide to use the Galaxy S22 Ultra, there are a number of notes that you need to know.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra is one of the best-screened smartphones I've ever seen—whether it's on or off. The four bezels are really thin, so the overall size of the device isn't too big. The curves on the left and right are also very subtle, not to the point of interfering with use.

The panel specifications are still the same as last year, having a 6.8-inch span, QuadHD + resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate that is more adaptive than before (more power efficient), plus supports HDR10 + content. What is different, this time there is a special AI-based feature that can brighten the screen display according to content. The maximum brightness itself goes up to 1,750 nits.

In my opinion, the Note function in the Galaxy S22 Ultra makes this flagship not have equal competitors. Not an iPhone, not a foldable device either. This is a very mature device and has almost all the quality features one would expect from a top smartphone.

Maybe the stylus it brings isn't for everyone, and some people might also prefer to spend the money by getting a foldable smartphone that looks more futuristic—although in terms of camera or battery life it's not as good as this one. It's legal.

To be sure, through the Galaxy S22 Ultra, Samsung consumers who were fans of the Galaxy Note series can feel a bright spot. No need to have to use other options that have a separate stylus, or be forced to settle with the Galaxy Note20 Ultra.
