Honda Motor Co., Ltd (Honda) and LG Energy Solution held a groundbreaking ceremony to start the construction of an electric car battery factory in Ohio, United States.
This factory was built with the aim of supporting Honda's plans to produce technologically advanced lithium-ion batteries in its electric vehicles (EV) in North America.
This battery factory will have an area of 186,000 m2 and construction will begin in March 2023 and is planned to be completed by the end of 2024.
This factory will create 2,200 workers with a target capacity of 40Gwh per year. Honda and LG had previously announced cooperation in the third quarter of 2022 with a total investment of US$4.4 billion.
The event was attended by Toshihiro Mibe as President and CEO of Honda Motor Co., Ltd., Dong-Myung Kim as President and Head of the Advanced Automotive Battery Division of LG Energy Solution, Mike DeWine as Governor of Ohio, Jon Husted as Lieutenant Governor and officials local community.

In addition, Honda has also announced its global plan to launch up to 30 electric-based cars by 2030, with production volumes reaching 2 million units annually. In addition, Honda is also trying to achieve carbon neutrality for all its product lines and company activities by 2050.
