Apple introduced Siri, a personal virtual assistant in 2011, along with the launch of the iPhone 4S. Since then, Apple has introduced and added a number of new features and capabilities to Siri.
All of Siri's features and capabilities are available on all Apple devices such as the iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, and even the Apple Watch. When it comes to personal artificial intelligence (AI) technology, especially generative AI, OpenAI's ChatGPT leads the way in this area.
ChatGPT's advances have prompted brands like Apple and Google to review their blueprints for their AI services. Quoting 9to5Mac, Apple is working on adding the ability to produce natural language to Siri.
As a reminder, AI services with the ability to generate natural language can create human-like content. Currently, Apple is said to be testing Siri with better capabilities on the Apple TV operating system 16.4 beta, and is trained only to produce jokes.
In the coming days, Siri is expected to arrive with natural language capabilities on devices like iPhone, iPad and Mac. However, depending on the device, Apple can potentially limit Siri's ability to provide a seamless experience.
In contrast to ChatGPT or GPT-4, capable of producing contextual content, this better version of Siri will offer better conversational output, said to present a voice more similar to that of a human than before.
Apple is also expected to limit this capability to Siri, so it won't be as good as OpenAI's GPT-4. Until now, there is no official information from Apple regarding the time of rolling out the latest version of Siri.
However, Apple is believed to be showing off an improved version of Siri at its annual developer conference, WWDC, in 2023.
