Specifications and Price for the 2024 Dodge Hornet, a PHEV SUV is fuel efficient
Maybe not many people know the specifications of the Dodge Hornet, because the car is not officially marketed in Indonesia. Even though the Dodge Hornet is quite a topic of conversation among car enthusiasts abroad, especially in America.
Because you could say, the Hornet is the first Compact SUV from Dodge to use plug-in hybrid technology, but still doesn't abandon the power of the typical Dodge engine.
Apart from that, even though it shares technology with the Alfa Romeo Tonale, the Hornet offers a more affordable price, so it can compete with Compact SUVs from Japanese and Korean manufacturers. Hyundai Tucson, KIA Sportage, Mitsubishi Outlander, Mazda CX-5, and Toyota Corolla Cross, are the list of Hornet's rivals.
However, Dodge claims that the advantage of the Hornet is that it is able to offer a more enjoyable driving experience along with a compromise in terms of fuel consumption. In Uncle Sam's country, the Hornet is marketed by Dodge in several trim variants and also optional exterior and interior accessories.
The price is in the range of USD42,995 to USD47,995, which if converted to rupiah is roughly equivalent to IDR 670 million to IDR 750 million. When compared to the prices of rival Japanese SUVs which are already sold in Indonesia, the price of the Dodge Hornet is indeed more expensive than the Toyota Corolla Cross, and is IDR 2 million away from the Mazda CX-5 Kuro Edition AWD.
Even though it is not marketed in Indonesia and there is no APM (Brand Holder Agent) from Dodge, there's no harm in taking a deeper look at what the specifications for the 2024 Dodge Hornet are like.
Compact SUV with an Aggressive Look
Carrying the big name of Dodge, it turns out that the Hornet still has the muscle car feel which has been the design theme for Dodge products. Just look at the front fascia of this car, which still uses slanted headlights, a black hexagonal grille with two red stripes, and an air intake at the bottom.
But what is unique is that Dodge designed the Hornet's front bumper like other compact SUVs, namely that there is a large air grille, as well as curves on the left and right edges decorated with black accents. We continue to the side view, this car is also shaped like other compact SUVs.
The design of the window glass is not too big and is tapered at the back, so the body line is also moderate, not too stiff, let alone muscular. Meanwhile, to accompany the 20 inch wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport tires, thin overfenders with Black Gloss accents are also installed.
As for the rear, the design of the lights still reminds us of the shape of the lights on several Dogde models such as the Charger model, only for the Hornet they are made flatter. Then in the rear area you can also see the placement of two exhaust holes which seems to emphasize the power of the car.
Interiors Suitable for Modern Families
The Hornet's cabin is the same size as the Alfa Romeo Tonale, providing a spacious interior for the driver and front passenger. This car is also designed for modern families who have two children who are still toddlers. The overall interior design is quite driver oriented, where the center console and infotainment system are slightly tilted towards the driver and the transmission lever is positioned slightly high.
The Hornet also uses the same steering wheel as the Alfa Romeo, although with a Dodge logo in the middle. All seats are upholstered in black leather with red stitching, but the front seats are equipped with heating and ventilation features.
In the middle there is also a 10.3 inch infotainment touch screen which is equipped with the Uconnect 5 operating system, Android Auto and Amazon Alexa connectivity, and is connected to 14 Harman Kardon speakers.
Meanwhile, on the driver's side, there is also a 12.3 inch digital meter cluster, which displays all complete vehicle information. The luxurious impression of this car's cabin is even more complete with the electric sunroof.
Specifications for the Dodge Hornet with PHEV Engine
As we mentioned at the beginning of this article, the Hornet is the first Plug-in Hybrid car from Dodge. The power source comes from a 1.3-liter 4-cylinder Turbocharged petrol engine combined with two electric motors and a battery with a capacity of 12.0 kWh.
This package is capable of producing a combined power of 292 PS and 519 Nm of torque, while still saving fuel. Quoted from CarandDriver, in testing on a combination route, the Dodge Hornet's fuel consumption was recorded at around 12 km/liter.
Meanwhile, the installed battery allows the car to drive as far as 51 km before the petrol engine finally automatically activates again. This car also has regenerative charging capabilities, but if you need a charger, the battery can be charged in approximately 2.5 hours to 80%.
Safety Features
The specifications for the 2024 Dodge Hornet are not only superior in terms of engine engineering, but the manufacturer also prioritizes the safety of all passengers on board.
This car is equipped with Active Driving Assist devices, which include Lane Centering Control, Cornering Control, Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning with Full Stop, Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Lane Keep Assist.
Apart from that, there is also a 360 Surround View Camera, Traffic Sign Recognition, Intelligent Speed Assist, Drowsy Driver Detection, and Front Park Sensor.
