Ford and Shelby are like two coins that cannot be separated in the history of American muscle cars since they first collaborated in 1965.
Now, the latest collaboration between Ford and Shelby America is targeting a Ford Mustang GT500 and GT350 with the Shelby Sgnature Edition package.
The highlight for this collaboration is, of course, the latest variant of the original Ford Mustang Shelby GT500SE, which has actually been equipped with a frightening engine and has been upgraded to be more powerful.
The most focused part of the modification is of course in the kitchen runway of this Ford Mustang.
This 5,200cc V8 engine is equipped with an upgraded supercharger, intercooler and a new pulley which is claimed to be able to provide an additional 40 hp.
The American sports car uses the base of the Mustang GT500 which is powered by a V8 engine or known as the Cobra Jet.
However, the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500KR added a 3.8-liter Whipple supercharger which increased the output of the 5.2-liter V8 engine it used.
This limited edition car gets a beefier intercooler and high-volume heat exchanger for the supercharger, cold air intake and Borla exhaust.
The rear suspension features height-adjustable springs on both axles and the wheels now measure 20 inches.
In the 1960s, Shelby used fiberglass to reduce the weight of the GT500KR. Now the company is using carbon fiber to cut the weight of the new GT500KR.
Composite materials are used on the hood, front splitter, to the rear diffuser.
Consumers are subject to additional cost options for supercharger polishing, a larger body kit, and a choice of race car color options. Then consumers can also ask to remove the back row seats and replace them with harness bars.
The Ford Mustang Shelby GT500KR is only available in 225 units worldwide, 180 of which will be marketed in the United States with the 60th Anniversary model.
2020 and 2021 GT500 owners can also get the KR upgrade package, but will not get the 60th Anniversary badge.
In terms of price, the 60th Anniversary edition of the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500KR starts at $127,895 in the US. While the KR upfit will cost you USD 54,995.
