Triumph has extended the contract to supply engines in the Moto2 World Championship at least until 2024. They will also promise a number of changes.
On the sidelines of the British Grand Prix, the 12th round of the 2021 Motor Racing World Championship, Triumph and Dorna Sports as promoters and holders of commercial rights in the three categories: Moto3, Moto2 and MotoGP, agreed to renew their cooperation.
Thursday (26/8/2021) afternoon local time, Triumph will continue to supply 765cc inline-three 4-stroke engines for all Moto2 participating teams for the next three years, at least until 2024.
The British manufacturer has started supplying engines for Moto2 motorcycles since 2019 (main photo). Previously, from 2010 to 2018, Moto2 machines were supplied by Honda which at that time was an inline-four 4-stroke type but with a smaller capacity, 600cc.
Now, after the second period as an engine supplier in Moto2 is officially signed, Triumph promises a number of changes. The goal is nothing but to give teams the opportunity to improve their performance.
"Together with (Dorna), we want to further develop Moto2 and provide greater challenges for riders, teams and technicians, so that Moto2 can become a platform for shaping future world champion candidates," said Steve Sargent, Triumph Chief Product Officer.
"I am very pleased to announce a new partnership for the next three years so that Triumph can continue to provide engines for Moto2 teams."
Sargent added that this contract extension with Moto2 was a success for Triumph in various dimensions. That's why Triumph is committed to developing the performance of the 765cc Triple engine.
They have planned engine development for the 2022 and 2023 seasons. "We don't want to change the electronic system but offer a tighter gearbox ratio to boost engine power, starting next season," said Sargent.
"So, we hope that all racing lovers, especially Moto2, can see more lap and top speed records breaking. Everyone will see a much more interesting Moto2 in the future."
Since supplying the Moto2 engine starting 2019, the Triumph 765cc Triple engine has several times managed to penetrate the maximum speed of 300 km / h.
As of 2019, 14 different riders have won the Grand Prix in the Moto2 class with Triumph engines. Meanwhile, the lap record that broke occurred in 34 Grand Prix.
Ahead of the British GP, the 1-2 position in the 2021 Moto2 standings is controlled by the Red Bull KTM Ajo duo, Remy Gardner and Raul Fernandez. Next year, both of them will be promoted to MotoGP strengthening the Tech3 KTM Factory Racing satellite team.
