Not only smartphone vendors, laptop makers also seem interested in making devices with foldable screens.
Asus has just launched its newest foldable laptop, the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED. This laptop was previously exhibited at the 2022 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), however, it was only launched at the IFA 2022 electronics exhibition this week.
By design, this device actually looks like a very large tablet with a 17.3-inch OLED panel with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,920 pixels and a 4:3 screen ratio.
However, the screen that can be folded in (inward) has various functions, depending on the position or folding mode.
If stretched, users can use it as a large main screen. The screen can be combined with a Bluetooth Keyboard, which is obtained in the device purchase package. This usage is similar when using a regular PC.
Then when folded with an angle of 120 degrees, users can "juggle" the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED screen as a conventional laptop which has a 12.5-inch screen with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,280 pixels.
In this mode, users can switch the bottom screen as a virtual keyboard or secondary screen for the sake of opening many applications, aka multitasking.
If the bottom screen is used for multitasking, users can use the Bluetooth Keyboard to help user productivity.
If the lower screen is not in use, the user can attach the Bluetooth Keyboard which has the magnet to the lower screen. So, the shape will be like a conventional laptop.
Turning to the hardware sector, the Asus Zenbook 17 Fold OLED is powered by an Intel i7-1250U processor (CPU) combined with 16 GB LPDDR5 RAM and PCIe 4.0 SSD storage media up to 1 TB.
In terms of power, this folding laptop is supported by a 4-cell battery with a capacity of 75Whr. With this battery, Asus claims that this folding laptop is strong enough to last with the screen on for up to 9 hours.
Other supporting features include two USB-C connectors with Thunderbolt 4 technology to charge (maximum 65 watts) and support display output, as well as a 3.5mm audio jack.
In the global market, the Asus Zenbook 17 Fold OLED is available in the Tech Black color variant and is sold at an exorbitant price of US$3,499.
It is not yet certain whether this folding laptop will also be marketed in Indonesia or not. We'll just wait.
