Google Pixel 7 everything we know so far

Google has given us an early look at the Google Pixel 7. After a sneak preview during May's Google I/O developer conference, we know what the phone looks like with redesigned camera lenses on the distinctive horizontal bar (which is now made of aluminum).

We also know — as we were expecting — that the Pixel 7 will use the second-generation Tensor chip, further unlocking all kinds of AI and machine learning applications in this fall's phones.

But plenty of unanswered questions remain about the Pixel 7 remain, and for good reason — the new phones won't arrive until later this year. Certainly, more Pixel 7 rumors will emerge in the next few months to paint a more detailed picture of how Google's phone will challenge devices like the Galaxy S22 and upcoming iPhone 14 for a place on the best phones list.

The Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro is tipped to release on October 13, while pre-orders could go up on October 6.

Here's what we know about the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro thus far, as well as additional rumors about Google's next flagship.

Google Pixel 7 news and rumors (Updated August 1)The Google Pixel 7 release date is tipped for October 13 and pre-orders will possibly go up on October 6.
A new Pixel 7 leak suggests the rear cameras won't be changed from last year's models.
In other Google phone news, the Pixel 6a — announced at the same time as the Pixel 7 preview — is now shipping.

Google Pixel 7 possible release date

A reliable leak by tipster Jon Prossor says the Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro release date could be on October 13 and pre-orders will possibly go up on October 6, which is also the event could possibly be held.

Google had mentioned that the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro will debut in the fall, so this tipped date ties up with that. We had guessed it would be sometime in October, as that's when Google traditionally shows off its fall flagship release.

The Pixel 7 follows on the heels of another Google phone that's out now. At the same I/O keynote where we got our Pixel 7 preview, Google also announced the Pixel 6a, its new $449 budget phone that shares more in common with last year's Pixel 6 than the upcoming flagships. That phone hit stores on July 28, clearing the decks for the Pixel 7 rollout.

Google Pixel 7 price speculation

Google will probably keep a lid on the Pixel 7 price right up until the launch in the fall. For context, the Pixel 6 costs $599 while the Pixel 6 Pro goes for $899. That's cheaper than what other phone makers charge for their flagship devices — the Galaxy S22 starts at $799, $200 more than the Pixel 6 as an example.

For that reason, we hope Google is able to hold the line on prices for the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. It's helped Google's phones stand out from the competition, and it's probably helped make the Pixel 6 the best-selling Pixels in Google's history.
