Not wanting to just dwell on hybrid technology, Honda is starting to get more serious about presenting electric vehicles, moreover they have an ambitious target by 2040 that all Honda vehicles marketed around the world are purely electric.
To realize this ambition, the manufacturer with the upright H logo has again introduced a new EV (electric vehicle) named the Honda Prologue EV 2023. An electric-powered SUV that is planned to be marketed in the United States in 2024.
Unlike other Honda electric cars, the Prologue uses a base platform and battery from General Motors (GM). That means, the Prologue brothers with electric SUVs from GM such as the Chevrolet Blazer EV and Cadillac Lyriq.
Bigger than Honda CR-V
Cooperation with other car manufacturers is not new to Honda, because in the 90s they had rebadged Land Rover and Isuzu cars into their own products.
The Prologue measures 4,877 mm in length, 1,989 mm in width, 1,643 mm in height and has a translucent wheelbase of three meters, 3,094 mm to be exact. This places the Prologue above the CR-V at just 4,701 mm long, 1,866 mm wide, 1,690 mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,700 mm.
The design of the Prologue is reminiscent of other Honda SUVs, such as the CR-V and BR-V. But of course adapted to the typical elements of electric cars, including the closed grille. Then, the H emblem which is usually on the trunk door of Honda cars, has now been replaced with an emblem that reads "Honda" in the middle of the black panel.
Interior with Neo Rugged Theme
Even though it is on the same platform as the Chevrolet, the exterior and interior design of the Honda Prologue EV 2023 is totally different. This also confirms the identity of Honda's design which has a differentiation with GM products.
Prologue EV 2023, Honda's Electric SUV with Chevrolet Flavor 02
Honda calls this electric SUV design "Neo-rugged" which brings natural elements to the exterior and interior. A clean impression is also seen in the dashboard design which is dominated by simple straight lines.
The Prologue is equipped with an 11-inch full digital instrument panel and an 11.3-inch touchscreen head unit as standard. With the large dimensions of this car, it is hoped that the relief of the Prologue cabin is also more satisfying.
When this press release was released, Honda had not mentioned anything about the technical data of the electric motor and battery on the Prologue. However, it will most likely be similar to the Chevrolet Blazer EV, especially the SS AWD type which is the highest type of this electric SUV.
In this type, the Blazer EV can spit out 557 hp of power and a giant torque of 879 Nm, and the distance on a single battery charge is up to 467 km.
To increase the prologue of the Prologue in the US, Honda will encourage the transition of hybrid car users to fully electric cars (BEV) with a two-year lease strategy for hybrid CR-Vs in several Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) states, so that when 2024 arrives they can immediately switch to Prologue.
