The Toyota Fortuner 2.8 GR Sport in Thailand has more power


Toyota Motor Thailand Co., Ltd. launched the Toyota Fortuner (Specifications | News) 2.8 GR Sport by making updates to the pacemaker sector. That way not only does it look sporty and sleek, this car is also more powerful.

In the Land of the White Elephant, the Fortuner 2.8 GR Sport is embedded with a 1GD-FTV 4-cylinder inline, 16 valve DOHC, VN Turbo Intercooler with a capacity of 2,755 cc which is called GD Super Power. Thanks to the updates made, the power and torque generated have increased by 20 PS and 50 Nm.

That means the Fortuner 2.8 GR Sport for the Thai market now has 224 PS of power at 3,400 rpm and 550 Nm of torque at 1,600-2,800 rpm. To make it work, the engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission with Sport Sequential Switchmatic. With this transmission, it is possible to shift gears manually using the paddle shift feature behind the steering wheel.

Toyota Fortuner 2.8 GR Sport in Thailand for sale starting from IDR 855 million

In Thailand, the Fortuner 2.8 GR Sport is offered in two types, namely the AT 4x4 single tone which costs 1,939,000 baht (Rp. 855 million) and the AT 4x4 two tone which costs 1,939,000 baht (Rp. 864 million).

In order to provide driving comfort, the Fortuner 2.8 GR Sport is embedded with a 9-inch touch screen head unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity for the entertainment system. Other improvements are found in the suspension which is now equipped with Monotube technology and an anti-roll bar which functions to absorb vibrations while improving driving performance.

Fortuner 2.8 GR Sport Equipped with ADAS

Unlike the Fortuner 2.8 GR Sport in Indonesia, in Thailand this car is equipped with an ADAS safety feature called Toyota Safety Sense (TSS). The TSS features on this car include pre-collision safety systems, lane departure warning systems with automatic delay and control systems, and automatic speed adjustment technology.

For the braking system, the calipers of this car use aluminum which is painted red to give a frightening impression. The use of aluminum in calipers is certainly stronger and lighter than ordinary iron while being able to release heat faster.

Fortuner 2.8 Legender Has Less Power and Torque

Apart from the GR Sport, Toyota Thailand also has other types of Fortuner, namely Legender and Leader. Both of them look more dynamic and elegant without the GR Sport body kit and accessories.

Speaking of the Legender variant, this car is embedded with a 1GD-FTV 4-cylinder inline diesel engine, 16 valve DOHC Euro4 VN Turbo Intercooler with a capacity of 2,755 cc which is capable of squeezing power of 204 PS at 3,400 rpm with a peak torque of 499 Nm at 1,600 – 2,800 rpm.

Just like the GR Sport, this car is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission with Sport Sequential Switchmatic with a paddle shift feature, which is then passed on to the rear wheels and all four wheels.

Apart from 2.8, this variant is also offered with a 2.4 2GD-FTV diesel engine. As information, the 2GD-FTV engine is also available in another variant, namely the Leader. Looking at the specifications on paper, the kitchen runway with a capacity of 2,393 cc with commonrail technology is capable of squeezing 149.6 PS of power at 3,400 rpm with torque reaching 400 Nm at 1,600-2,000 rpm.

For comfort, Legender models get specially tuned suspension, for added smoothness and better vibration absorption. Oh yes, this model also applies the same TSS safety features as embedded in the GR Sport variant.

In the lower variant, Leader, smart safety features are applied in the form of a blind spot warning system at the side mirror, warning system while reversing the car RCTA, 360 degree camera (PVM).
