Apart from the Kia Carens and Sportage, PT Kreta Indo Artha (KIA) also presented the latest generation of the Kia Sorento with Hyubrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) technology at the GIIAS 2022 exhibition.
Unlike the previous generation which had a diesel engine, Kia made a bold breakthrough by incorporating hybrid technology into the Sorento. this.
For those who don't know, the Sorento is still in the same base and segment as the Hyundai Santa Fe, which has been sold in Indonesia with petrol and diesel engine options.
This hybrid technology combines the Smartstream G1.6 T-Gdi petrol engine, CVVD 4-cylinder in line with a capacity of 1.6 liters with a turbocharger that produces 179 PS and 264 Nm of torque and an electric motor with 44 kW or the equivalent of 60 PS.
If these two systems are driven together under certain conditions, the power generated in the Sorento HEV can reach 230 PS and 350 Nm of torque, which is channeled to the front wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission. The Kia Sorento HEV carries a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 14 kWh.
Dashing Design, Luxurious Interior
In general, the design of the latest Kia Sorento looks more luxurious and manly than the previous generation, as can be seen from the large grille line that forms the Tiger Nose as Kia's main identity for more than a decade.
Sorento HEV uses Dual Projection LED with High Beam Assist with DRL and a pair of fog lamps with LED technology at the bottom. The rim itself has a fairly large size, which is 19 inches with a dual tone design. The rear lights are quite unique because they are in the form of two vertical boxes with LED technology.
The interior is no less luxurious with a long panel that houses a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and a 12.3-inch touchscreen head unit. Infotainment features include Bluetooth connectivity, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Sorento HEV is equipped with 12 speakers from the Bose Premium Sound System.
Indeed, the interior design is also an inspiration for the small SUV, Sonet, especially on the center console and the AC grille on the dashboard. Interestingly, the second row seat is now of the captain seat type so that it can accommodate 6 adults in it.
Just like the latest Sportage, you can also see the use of the Advance Driving Assist System (ADAS) feature on the Sorento hybrid, such as Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Smart Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, and so on.
Oh yes, the transmission design is now not a lever type as before, but a rotary model that can be rotated according to the gear selected by the driver, as well as a head up display.
All the luxury and technological sophistication that is presented in the Sorento hybrid makes the price much higher than the previous version with a diesel engine.
PT Kreta Indo Artha has set a price for the Kia Sorento HEV at IDR 960 million, which makes it penetrate the price range of the Hyundai Palisade, which is one segment above it.
