Rotary technology has been a mainstay at Mazda for years. Quoted from response.jp, Mazda will launch the latest generation Mazda2 next year with radical changes. It was also stated that the 2024 Mazda2 still maintains the KODO design philosophy but brings a more dynamic feel.
Where on the face, it is predicted that this car will resemble the newest line up which plays in the Medium SUV segment, namely the CX-60. Looking at the illustration shown, this car carries the Noble Toughness concept by carrying an elongated auto leveling LED lighting system, which seems to be connected to the grill.
There is not much information about what the inside looks like, only that this city car will get the New Mazda Connect infotainment system.
2024 Mazda2 Rotary Engine Functions As A Generator
The presence of the new generation Mazda2 will complement Mazda's other electrified car options such as the MX-30 R-EV, MX-30 EV and MX-30 mild hybrid.
Predicted to debut in the Land of the Rising Sun in the fall of 2024, it is estimated that this car will have several engine choices, including; mild hybrid Skyactiv-G 1.5L 3 cylinder, diesel Skyactiv-D 1.5L 3 cylinder, and Skyactiv-X 1.5L 3 cylinder.
Interestingly, this car is also said to have the e-Skyactiv R-EV Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) powertrain option, using an 830 cc rotary engine called the 8C pulse which was previously installed on the MX-30 R-EV.
Looking at the specifications of the 830 cc rotary engine on the MX-30 R-EV, the mechanical heart with a single rotor can produce 55 kW (74 PS) of power and 116 Nm of torque. Functioning as a generator, the rotary engine produces electrical power which is then transmitted to a battery with a capacity of 17.8 kWh.
Next, the power stored in the battery is transferred to a 125 kW (167 PS) electric motor with 260 Nm of torque, which can cover a distance of up to 85 km when using EV mode.
Can charge the battery using AC and DC current. If you use 36 kW DC charging, it will take 25 minutes to get the battery status to 80% from the previous 20%.
