Honda Odyssey 2023 Revives in Japan, Now Made in China

Since 2022, Honda has announced that it will no longer extend production of the Odyssey model. This is due to the closure of the Honda car assembly plant in Saitama, Japan since late 2021.

However, this month Honda provided surprising news by presenting the 2023 Honda Odyssey in Japan. That means the luxury MPV competitor to Toyota Alphard is officially back to life.

The 2023 Honda Odyssey is Now Made in China

This time, Odyssey, which will be sold again in the Land of the Rising Sun, is actually imported from China. Yes, apart from Japan, this MPV with sliding doors from Honda is also marketed in the Bamboo Curtain country. It is divided into two different faces, namely Odyssey produced by GAC-Honda and its brother, Elysion, by Dongfeng-Honda.

The return of the Odyssey, which is now in China's made-in status, does not make Honda make significant changes to the exterior and interior appearance. Instead, Honda added several new features that were not previously available on the Japanese-produced Odyssey.

There is a Black Edition Version

One new feature that stands out is the second row captain seat model which looks more luxurious than the previous Odyssey. This includes four-way electric seat adjustments, heating features, and a table between the two seats equipped with two cup holders to place drinks.

On the dashboard, the transmission which previously used a lever model is now replaced with buttons that do not seem to block the AC grille. Options for charging gadgets are also more diverse because wireless charging is already available at the bottom of the dashboard.

Not only adding several new features, Honda also gave an all-black touch to the Odyssey Black Edition type. This touch can be seen on the exterior, such as chrome ornaments on the grille, wheels, mirrors and lights, as well as being present in the interior.

Most likely, Honda still maintains the hybrid petrol engine option with a capacity of 2,000 cc. This machine produces power of 145 PS with 175 Nm of torque combined with an electric motor with 184 PS and 315 Nm of torque.

Even though it was introduced this April, the Honda Odyssey 2023 can only be ordered by consumers in Japan in autumn. Meanwhile, this MPV will only be officially marketed in winter 2023 or around November - December.
