The 2023 Toyota Yaris Cross seems ready to appear to the public. The car, which is said to replace the Toyota Rush, will likely be released in Jakarta, Monday (15/05/2023).
This was revealed in the official invitation sent by PT Toyota Astra Motor (TAM) to the Autofun editorial desk. The invitation even says "World Premiere of Toyota's New Urban Cruiser Icon". This seems to guarantee the presence of a new adventurous car in the form of the 2023 Toyota Yaris Cross which will make its global debut in Indonesia next week.
Predictions of the 2023 Toyota Yaris Cross specifications
Indeed, there are no photos of the appearance of this latest Yaris Cross. Likewise with other information about the technical specifications. However, it is very likely that Toyota Indonesia will use a machine that has previously been used in other models.
Our prediction leads to a 2NR-VE engine with a cylinder capacity of 1.5L. As is known, this machine has been used by the Toyota All New Avanza and also the Toyota All New Veloz.
Using DOHC and Dual VVT-i technology, the Avanza-Xenia 1,496 cc engine is capable of producing 106 PS of power at 6,000 rpm and 137 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm. Transmission options are a 5-speed manual or a CVT automatic.
Why is this machine worthy of being the heart of the racer? Because the Yaris Cross for the Southeast Asian market (ASEAN) including Indonesia, was developed by Daihatsu. This car will also use the DNGA-B (Daihatsu New Global Architecture) platform so that the engine can be sure to use the same items as similar-based models. Moreover, this machine has also been used by the latest Toyota Vios which uses the DNGA platform.
Will There Be a Hybrid Variant?
Apart from the 2NR-VE petrol engine, our next prediction is the emergence of the Toyota Yaris Cross Hybrid 2023. As we know, Toyota Indonesia has indeed intended to add another hybrid model that is produced locally after the Innova Zenix Hybrid.
This intention has also been expressed by the President Director of PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN), Warih Andang Tjahjono. He said that Toyota wants to produce a hybrid car priced at IDR 300 million in Segment B. In fact, this car will not only be produced for the domestic market but also exported to several other countries.
Is this prediction true? Let's wait for other information that will appear.
