In recent years, electric cars have started to be loved in a number of countries, one of which is China, which is now producing many environmentally friendly vehicles. As a local brand from China, BYD's sales in the first half of this year contributed to sales of 524,184 units representing 25.04% market share, which was also named the best-selling electric car in China.
In second place was filled by brands from Uncle Sam's country, Tesla with sales of 294,105 units or 14.05%. Next, the number three position was occupied by GAC Aion, a local Chinese brand which managed to sell 211,228 units of electric cars or capture a market share of 10.09%.
Not inferior to local brands, Wuling and Changan occupy fourth and fifth positions as the best-selling electric car brands there.
According to data released from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), overall car sales in China including pure electric vehicles, PHEV and Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) managed to sell 9,533,000 units from January to June 2023.
This figure shows an increase of 2.8% compared to the same period last year. Of these sales, 2,093,000 units were pure electric vehicles (EV), while 996,000 units were plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) or collectively known as New Energy Vehicles (NEV), accounting for 32.4% of total sales.
Tesla Model Y Electric Car Sales Beat BYD Qin Plus
Turning to the most popular model in the Chinese market, the Tesla Model Y managed to become the most popular type of vehicle with sales of 203,932 units. The number two best-selling electric car in the Bamboo Curtain country was won by BYD Qin Plus which sold 200,274 units, then BYD Song Plus with 176,526 units sold.
Furthermore, in the number four position, the Nissan Sylphy was successfully distributed with 158,635 units, which was followed by BYD Dolphin with sales of 153,401 units.
BYD Will Debut at GIIAS 2023
As an automotive manufacturer from China that is currently focusing on producing electric cars, BYD will for the first time take part in celebrating the GIIAS 2023 event which will be held soon. Two new products that will certainly appear at the exhibition later are the BYD Atto 3 and BYD Dolphin.
As information, the Atto 3 uses a BYD Blade (LFP) battery which is claimed to be stronger, safer and more durable than batteries in electric cars in general. In the Standard Range type, the battery capacity is 49.92 kWh with a range of around 410 kilometers.
In the Extended Range variant, this car uses a battery with a capacity of 60.48 kWh which from full condition can run the car up to 480 kilometers.
Combined with a single electric motor powered by 150 kW (204 PS) and 350 Nm of torque which is placed at the front, the record time obtained from 0-100 km/h only takes 7.3 seconds.
Speaking of BYD Dolphin, looking at the specifications in the country of origin, this electric car was built based on BYD e-Platform 3.0.
The battery has a capacity of 44.9 kWh with a maximum mileage of up to 410 kilometers according to WLTP. The time record obtained in the 0-100 km/h test takes 12.3 seconds.
This car uses a single electric motor of the AC permanent magnet synchronous type which is placed in front. Speaking of the resulting performance, it can squeeze out 70 kW (95 PS) of power and up to 180 Nm of torque. For maximum speed, BYD Dolphin can be driven up to 130 km/hour.
